Hi, I'm Dr. Steven Bienstock

I opened Coastline Dental Care because I wanted to run the kind of office I'd want to sit in. That means you see the same dentist every visit, you hear what's going on in plain language, and nobody rushes you out the door.

I earned my DDS at Stony Brook and finished my residency at New York-Presbyterian in Queens. I like all of it, but cosmetic work is what I've spent the most time getting good at.

Whether it has been 6 months or 6 years since your last visit, we are ready to meet you wherever you are. Never any judgment. Just high-quality care.

How often should I come in? Click to openClose
Most people do well with a cleaning and exam every six months. That is usually often enough to catch a cavity while it is still small and to keep tartar from building up under the gumline. If you have a history of gum disease, get cavities easily, or have a health condition that affects your mouth, Dr. Bienstock may want to see you more often, and he will tell you why rather than just booking you in.

A hygienist cleans first, taking off plaque and tartar and polishing everything up. Then Dr. Bienstock goes over your teeth, gums and bite, and checks the rest of your mouth including a quick oral cancer screening. Digital X-rays only if something needs a closer look. You will hear what he found in plain language before you leave.

Digital X-rays use a small fraction of the radiation old film needed, and we only take them when there is a reason to. They show cavities between teeth, bone levels, infections and anything developing below the surface that an exam on its own will not catch. You get a lead apron and thyroid collar either way. What should I do in a dental emergency? Click to openClose
Call the office first at 516-766-5250. If a tooth has been knocked out, rinse it gently without scrubbing and try to put it back in the socket. If that will not work, keep it in milk and get here quickly. For a cracked tooth, a lost filling or swelling, we try to get you seen the same day. How can I take better care of my teeth at home? Click to openClose
Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste and floss once. That covers most of it. Drinking water through the day helps more than people expect, since it rinses food away and keeps saliva doing its job. If you grind at night or your teeth are sensitive, say so at your visit and we will work out whether a night guard or a prescription toothpaste is worth it.

Most plans cover preventive care, so cleanings, exams and routine X-rays usually cost you little or nothing. Crowns, fillings and implants vary a lot depending on the plan. Our front desk checks your benefits and gives you the numbers in writing before you agree to any treatment, so nothing shows up on a bill you were not expecting.

Plenty of our patients were in exactly that spot when they first called. There is no lecture waiting for you. We start with where things are now, tell you what we are seeing, and build a plan you are comfortable with. You decide the pace.
