Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a “cap” that resembles a natural tooth which is used to cover your existing tooth once a repair has been made.
What Is A Dental Crown?
Dental crowns are covers or caps that look like your natural teeth and are used to cover your existing tooth to restore it to its normal look, shape, size, and function. If you have a tooth that is damaged due to decay or trauma and you are feeling self conscious about your smile, you might be the right candidate for a dental crown.
Why Do I Need A Dental Crown?
You may need a dental crown for a number of reason, including:
- You have a cavity that is too large
- A tooth that is cracked or weakened
- Sealing your tooth after a root canal
- Oddly shaped or severely stained teeth
- You have a dental implant
What Does A Dental Crown Procedure Look Like?
We will first perform a thorough exam to check the health of the affected tooth. If any decay has spread deep into the tooth and has reached the roots or pulp, you might need a root canal first. If a root canal is not needed, your dentist will then numb the area for your comfort and remove any signs of decay, leaving room for a crown to seal the tooth afterwards.
An impression is then taken of your teeth and sent to the lab. You will receive a temporary crown to protect the tooth until your crown is produced. Once we receive your crown, we will place it in your mouth to ensure it is a proper fit.
When you and your dentist are happy with the look and feel, your crown will be permanently cemented into place.
